Nursing Staff

The charity funds the salary of one full time nurse to staff the medical centre at St Michael’s. Nurse Zam lives on site at the school and with the assistance of one member of the dormitory team she takes care of the medical needs for all staff and students at St Michael’s.

Nurse Zam provides us with a termly report outlining the challenges and achievements of the term.

A local doctor supervises Nurse Zam and visits the school on a monthly basis. He also assists her with ad hoc enquiries and issues.

As well as triaging and attending to important medical needs, Nurse Zam works with the staff and students to educate about good hygiene practices (e.g. washing hands after using the toilet and washing fruits and vegetables before cooking). She also processes moringa (cuts and dries it) so that it can be added to supplement the students’ diets (please see our page on School Meal Funding for more about the benefits of moringa).
