IT Facilities

We believe it is essential to provide the pupils with exposure and access to computers as part of their education in the 21st century.

Both St Michael’s and Bishop Willigers now have dedicated IT classrooms. Over the years we have supplied a number of second hand refurbished computers to St Michael’s from UConnect Uganda- an amazing Kampala based NGO specialising in selling refurbished IT equipment to schools. Sadly there is now a ban on imported 2nd hand computers and UConnect have relocated to Tanzania- so we have not been able to add any further refurbished IT equipment. When these computers are at end of life they are brought to the UK for disposal. In early 2023 Bishop Willigers was provided with a large number of new computers by the Ugandan Communication Commission.

To ensure that pupils are getting the maximum benefit from the computers, our charity funds the salary of an excellent IT teacher full time to provide IT education across both St Michael’s and Bishop Willigers.

Challenges

  • The computers are affected by the heat and the dust. We are currently considering funding fans and/or flooring tiles for the classrooms to try and manage this.

  • Power is also a unreliable in rural Uganda.

  • No Internet available in the classrooms at this time.

Your Donations can help us to fund:

  • Fans and tiles in the classrooms to reduce the heat and dust.

  • Protective covers for the computers to help prevent the build up of dust.

  • The means for securing the computers and/or IT classrooms (e.g. locks, cabinets)
